Post from mommy Melissa

Hello everyone and thanks so much for following our family blog. Well I am able to write on this blog now and have a lot to say but will sum it up. First off, wow how great is it to be a mom!! The joy, emotions, love and feeling of being a parent is something one can never explain until it happens to them. Baby Kaian is truly a beautiful baby and is so strong after what he went through with mommy. He is a healthy little boy who is truly loved by SO MANY people! Grandpa Gale and Grandma Janice have been here helping us along with many friends who have stopped by for support.
Next I want to say how very lucky I am to have Cory by my side but especially through a time like this. My hat goes off to him as he stayed so strong for me when times were truly rough in the operating room. As many of you heard, my epidural didn't work entirely on my right side so I was able to feel the end of my surgery and let me tell you IT HURT! But daddy and baby kept me focused. After that I had a pretty rough recovery (7hrs) until I got to be with baby. That's another story and a long one but the GOOD news is I am with my husband and baby still recovering at the hospital and we are enjoying our bonding time together. Thank you to all of our friends and family for your help and support. We truly are so grateful for you and our new little baby boy Kaian (Kai for short means the sea/ocean in Hawaiian) Naleieha Loebl. Much Love, the loebl Family:)

Breastfeeding 101

Thank you breastfeeding classes!!!  The very first skin to skin earlier with mom, breastfeeding was unsuccessful because Kaian was so tired.  At 9:15pm we tried again and within a couple of minutes mom and coach got little man to latch.  He fed for about 3-4 minutes and went back to sleep!

Welcome Baby Kaian. Prounounced "ky-en"

Kaian Naleieha Loebl, born 10:58am Sunday August 9,2009.  Weighed 7lbs 11oz and 20 1/2 inches long.  Mom is currently recovering in post pardum and Kaian will shortly be joining.  My hat is offically off to any mother.  Melissa had a very long and painful labor as she was dialated all the way to the 8-9cm mark to only have to resort to a cesarian.  Melissa's goal during this pregnancy was to work as hard as possible no matter how long, to have a vaginal birth.  However, due to slight complications it ended after almost 40 hours as doctors favored for the cesarian.  Being next to Melissa's side during the C-section was a hardest thing I've ever had to do, seeing her going through so much pain.  Melissa was a trooper and her reward for all the hard work over the last two days is a beautiful newborn boy.  Melissa's recovery will follow this post.  Thank you to all friends and family for all the support over the last 9 months!!!!!

EXCITING UPDATE 1:30AM, 3:30AM, 5:30AM,8:45AM

Last cervical check was about 15 minutes ago at 1:30am and Melissa is now dialated to 5cm Yeah!!!  Everything looks great as she has asked for more pain meds because her pain level has increased significantly.  Melissa and I are very excited as we have finally moved forward with the laboring process.  After 32 hours, she is finally in ACTIVE LABOR!!!
*3:30 and now at 7cm...getting closer...
*5:30 and now at 9cm...almost there...
*8:45 and no progress on dialation...little man has come down a little more but cervix not ready

7PM Labor Update

WOW!  It has been a long day for Melissa.  She was tough going until 4:30 today when she decided to get the epidoral.  She was still at the 1-2cm mark and had been going through some very tough contractions for a few hours.  Her contractions are currently very strong and very steady every 2-3 minutes but has zero pain.  She is actually resting quietly through her steady pattern of labor.  A new night nurse comes on in about a half hour and she will be working with the doc to check her cervix in the next hour or two.  Since Melissa is very comfortable and there are no signs of stress or risk to her or the baby, they want to continue to see if her cervix will keep dialating and give her every chance to give vaginal birth and stay away from Cesarian.  More updates to come throughout the night!!!  Her Oxytocin dose (contraction meds -originally started at 2)is now at 24

Labor Update!!!

It's been 19 1/2 hours since Melissa's water broke and waiting patiently for the labor to progress.  Contractions are becoming more regular with more discomfort but the last cervical check a couple hours ago was still around 1 cm.  Grandpa Gale, Grandma Janice, Uncle Steve and Aunty Stacie came in today and are awaiting the arrival of baby Loebl.  As her contractions grow, she is learning how to relax more and more with the increase in pain.  She has been on Oxytocin since 9:30am.  This is the medication to induce her contractions.  She started at 2 and is currently at 10

Baby Time!!!!

It's time to get the party started.  Melissa's water broke at 5:45pm today August 7th (the balloon sure did pop!!!)  She was nervous but was very calm and we took our time getting ready to go to the hospital.  Steve and Stacie, Jon and Kari, and our neighbor Roslyn came over to spend a little time keeping her calm and preparing to take care of our animals.  It is 12:30am August 8th and was only at 1cm dialated 4 hours ago.  Contractions have slowed and we are about to get some ZZZ's before the big day tomorrow!!!  This was Cory's first post.
